Learn how to grow avocados in pots so you no longer have to buy them
The perfect location: sun and warmth above all
Like cicadas in Provence, avocados love the sun. Place your pot on a sunny terrace, a south-facing balcony, or even behind a large window if you live in an apartment. Avoid cold drafts and dimly lit rooms: avocado trees are sensitive to cold !
A suitable soil: nourishing and slightly acidic
Use a rich, well-draining potting mix. For best results, mix universal potting soil with a little sand or perlite (available at garden centers) . This will prevent the roots from rotting.
Easy steps to plant an avocado in a pot
-
Prepare the kernel

After enjoying your avocado, remove the pit, rinse it thoroughly, then insert three toothpicks to suspend it over a glass of water. The base of the pit should be submerged. Place it in a bright location.
-
Patience and watering
In a few weeks, a root will begin to grow, followed by a stem. When this stem reaches 15 cm, cut it halfway up: this will strengthen the plant and stimulate the growth of new leaves.
-
Repotting
When the first leaves appear, it's time to pot it up. Remove the toothpicks, bury the bottom half of the seed in the soil, and place the pot in the sun. Trim the stem back to 30 cm to encourage branching.
