We've all done it at least once: left our phone charger plugged in, even when the device is already charged or disconnected. A common, almost automatic gesture… but one that could well conceal more risks than we imagine! Between wasted energy and the risk of overheating, this habit really deserves some attention. So, should we unplug our charger every time? And above all, how can we adopt the right habits without making things complicated?
Why leaving a charger plugged in isn't so harmless
Even without a phone plugged in, a charger continues to consume electricity. Admittedly, the amount is small, but accumulated over several months (and multiplied by the number of devices!), the bill can climb without you realizing it.
Most importantly, this small device heats up, sometimes imperceptibly, but enough to pose a long-term danger—especially if the charger is of poor quality or placed near flammable materials. In other words, it's a bit like leaving a burning candle and forgetting about it.
The simple reflex that changes everything

The first step is also the most obvious: unplug the charger as soon as charging is complete. This only takes a few seconds and reduces both the risk of fire and electricity consumption.
If you tend to forget, consider using a power strip with a switch: a simple click and all your devices are off. Some recent models even offer automatic shut-off when the battery is full—practical and safe!
